WordPress Backup and Restore
by John on Aug.18, 2011, under tech
So late last night and this morning I moved my website to a new host. Until this go around, I had yet to find an “easy” method to do a backup and restore. After the break, check out how I did it painlessly.
So the portion of this that is required for WordPress, should be required by the devs, is Xcloner. This little piece of beauty allows you to grab ALL the files inside the host area, ALL the databases required, and zip them up into a .tar file. Then just grab 2 other files that the plugin creates, and wallah. You have a simple backup of your entire site.
For restore? Simply upload all three files to your NEW host, or the same if your site crashed for some reason and run the .php file that it creates. It will ask for new DB connection information and restore the entire site. I highly reccomed this plugin!!! ALso works for other CMS systems.
